If you’re joining my class, the first thing I want you to know is that this is a place where you can feel comfortable, supported, and excited to learn. My teaching style is interactive and student-centered, which means you won’t just be sitting and listening all the time—you’ll be involved in activities, discussions, and projects that help you really understand what we’re learning. I like to connect lessons to real-life situations so they feel meaningful and interesting, not just something you have to memorize.

One moment that really stands out to me was with a student who struggled a lot with reading and confidence. At the beginning of the year, they were very quiet, avoided participating, and would often shut down when asked to read or answer questions. I could tell it wasn’t just about the content—it was that they didn’t believe they could succeed.

Instead of pushing them in whole-group settings, I started working with them in a small group and used texts that matched their reading level while still being interesting to them. I also made sure to celebrate small wins, like correctly reading a sentence or sharing an idea. Over time, I noticed they started raising their hand more and even volunteering to read aloud in a small group.
